WE CALL HIM A POCKET LAB BECAUSE OF HIS SIZE!!!
UPDATE 3/7/18:
Hershey is a sweet, smart, very energetic dog.  A DNA test says he is a Beagle/Labrador/Cattle Dog (mix).  He is about 2 years old and weighs 24 pounds.  Adopted a couple of months ago, he was just returned because he had too much energy for their very busy household with small children. They lived in a city, didnt have another dog (Hershey loves to play with other dogs), and they werent set up to enable him to burn off his puppy like energy.  He needs much more exercise than a once a day outing where he can run.  The family had a cat; Hershey didnt harm it but (probably out of boredom) they said he did torment the cat.
He loves to be included in things, is a great, portable size, and a good age to train.  He has many great qualities.  He:
- is house trained (but all dogs need refresher courses in their new homes).
- knows and responds to the following commands and hand signals:  SIT, DOWN, STAY, & COME.
- fetches a ball and is learning to bring it back. Creates ball games to play with himself.
- doesnt bark much.
- is very well behaved at the shelter and accepts treats with a gentle mouth.
- likes to ride in the car.
- seems to read the energy level of his surroundings and mirrors that energy level.
- loves to run and play outside and needs a safe place to do somany times each day.
- likes other dogs and wants to be with them.  Because he has puppy energy, he needs other dogs (and older kids) to play his energy out with.  He would probably do well at a dog park.
- our dog trainer Sigrid thinks he would EXCELL at agility sports and may even be able to win competitions.
When bored, he likes to chew, so he needs lots of rawhides and toys to chew on.  True to his cattle dog heritage, he sometimes nips at people to herd them.
Hershey must have a home where he can run his energy out many times each day.  He NEEDS a home in the country (preferably with a BIG YARD), with another energetic dog that can attempt to wear Hershey out.  Still very young, he would benefit from various types of training and like all dogs he needs some boundaries and parameters.  A home with structure and no toddlers would work best for him, because he plays too rough for little kids.  He likes kids thought.  Hershey is a smart dog and needs both mental and physical stimulation.
GOOD WITH DOGS.  GOOD WITH KIDS OVER 6.
